Tigist Mergya
Project Assistant, SUNCASA
As a project assistant, Tigist Mergya supports the implementation of the Scaling Urban Nature-based Solutions for Climate Adaptation in Sub-Saharan Africa (SUNCASA) project in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. This project aims to restore the Dechatu River catchment to reduce flash-flood risks, water stress, and the urban heat island effect.
Prior to joining IISD, Tigist assisted projects led by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) focused on enhancing food security and building the capacity of public institutions to develop an enabling environment for businesses in Ethiopia.
Tigist holds a master’s degree in leadership from Yardstick International College and a bachelor’s degree in political science and international relations from Dire Dawa University. She is based in Ethiopia.
